Garage Doors in Toronto, OntarioKeep the weatheron the outside.

A worn bottom seal lets in snow, leaves and cold air, and lets warmth out of the room above. We fit new seals and perimeter weatherstrip sized to your door, so the garage stays drier and the rest of the house works less hard.

From the shop

Quiet doors for homes with bedrooms above.

Not every garage is a standard box. Low headroom, tall openings, a hoist above the car, a door that has to clear a loft. We work out the track configuration, spring sizing and opener placement for those spaces, whether that means a low-headroom kit, a high-lift conversion or a jackshaft opener mounted beside the door.

Garage door services

Doors, openers and hardware

From a sagging wood door on an older home to a glass-panelled door on a new build, we work with the door you have. The services are grouped so you can find repairs, hardware, access controls and installations without hunting.

Repairs

Repair & Maintenance

This is where a door comes when it is still worth keeping. Panels get straightened or swapped one at a time, tracks get trued, rollers get renewed, and the whole assembly is run by hand to confirm it moves the way it should.

Springs

Springs & Hardware

Cables, drums, centre bearings and the springs themselves all work as a team. Replace one worn piece and the rest last longer; ignore it and the opener pays the price.

How a visit goes

On a door with two springs, replacement usually starts with a conversation about scope. Both springs have completed the same number of cycles, so when one breaks the other is typically close behind, and replacing the pair together gives the door two matched springs sharing the load evenly.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 58%Older homes

About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Wiring in an older garage may be a single outlet on the ceiling shared with the light, so a new opener is chosen with that in mind, and a battery backup covers the door during a power cut. The technician looks at the outlet before recommending a unit.

  • 23%

Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).

Where most residents live in attached homes, a technician's day includes coordinating with neighbours: parking the van without blocking a shared lane, keeping noisy work to reasonable hours, and finishing a door in one visit so the row is not disrupted twice.

The questions that come up

(289) 306-0391

What other parts are often replaced with the spring?

The shaft is free during a spring change, which makes it the natural time to renew the centre bearing and end bearings if they grind or wobble. Lift cables that show fraying or rust at the bottom brackets are replaced so the new spring pulls on sound steel, and cracked or worn drums are swapped. On older doors, a corroded centre bracket or loose lag bolts may also be addressed. Each item is shown and explained before it is added.

My car is inside the garage; how do you get the door open?

Once the technician is on site, the door is secured and the spring replaced with the door in its closed position, which is how spring work is always done. When the new spring is wound and the door balances, it lifts normally and the vehicle drives out. There is no need to force the door open beforehand; leaving it closed keeps the door square and the job straightforward.

What does a cycle rating mean?

One cycle is a full open and close. Springs are built for a set number of cycles, and a standard residential spring is commonly rated around ten thousand. A household that uses the door six times a day reaches that in roughly four to five years, while a door used twice a day stretches the same rating much further. Higher-cycle springs use heavier wire and a longer coil to produce the same force with less stress, so they last proportionally longer.

Can extension springs be converted to a torsion system?

In many garages, yes. A conversion adds a shaft, centre and end bearings, drums and torsion springs above the opening and removes the extension springs and pulleys from beside the tracks. It needs enough headroom above the door for the shaft and solid framing for the centre bracket. The technician measures the space and the door before recommending it, and the result is smoother, more even lifting with hardware kept clear of the sides.

Can cold weather affect the sensors?

It can, in a few ways. Frost or condensation on a lens in an unheated garage dims the beam until it clears. The low winter sun reaches further across the floor and into a receiving eye. Old wire insulation cracks in the cold and shorts. Salt slush builds against brackets and corrodes them and the terminals over the years. Each of those has a straightforward remedy: cleaning, a shade or side swap, a fresh wire run, or brackets set above the slush line.
